Module 7: Human Resources
During my Dietetic Internship with Aramark Student Nutrition, I had the opportunity to explore the Human Resources (HR) component of the organization through an interview with Elaine Evans, the HR Manager for the Scranton area. I learned that Aramark’s HR department plays a vital role in recruiting, training, and supporting employees across various departments. Recruitment begins with identifying staffing needs, followed by internal postings on the Aramark website and external advertisements through platforms such as Indeed, newsletters, and social media. HR also oversees the hiring process through their internal system “My Work Life,” which tracks applicants from submission to onboarding. In addition, HR manages performance appraisals that align closely with job descriptions and ensures that employees meet company standards through regular evaluations and union-monitored accounts. I also gained insight into Aramark’s grievance process, which emphasizes communication and fair resolution at multiple administrative levels. Overall, this experience highlighted how Human Resources supports organizational efficiency, employee development, and compliance within the food service system
