I wrote a letter to Mayor Cognetti and Ms. Paige Gebhardt, expressing my concern about the high levels of food insecurity in Scranton. I chose this focus because nearly 25,000 residents in Lackawanna County, including over 6,000 children, experience food insecurity, and many households rely heavily on federal nutrition assistance to meet their basic needs. For the legislative survey, I chose the area of Scranton, Pennsylvania, located in Lackawanna County.  My federal officials include Senators John Fetterman and Dave McCormick, along with Representative Rob Bresnahan from Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district. At the state level, my officials are Senator Marty Flynn, who represents the 22nd District, and Representative Kyle Donahue of the 113th District. s

The purpose of this module is to help me better understand how the legislative process works and how a bill can move forward to become a law or policy. As part of the assignment, I completed a legislative survey that listed my elected representatives and identified who I would reach out to if I wanted to show support for or against a proposed bill.
