Module 4: Case Study Project
Case Study
I completed my case study on a 64-year-old female patient admitted with severe chronic peripheral arterial disease and a complex medical history, including metastatic lung cancer, COPD, and significant unintentional weight loss . The patient presented with reduced appetite, fatigue, and swallowing discomfort related to suspected esophagitis, which placed her at high nutritional risk. My presentation included a comprehensive overview of the patient’s medical condition, pathophysiology, nutritional assessment, and individualized nutrition care plan. I applied the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to develop appropriate nutrition diagnoses, interventions, and monitoring strategies, focusing on improving oral intake, managing symptoms, and preventing further weight loss. The written paper provided a deeper analysis of the case, including evidence-based recommendations and follow-up strategies. I presented this case study to approximately six preceptors, which allowed me to receive valuable feedback and strengthen my clinical reasoning, presentation, and communication skills.
